UP Kanwar Yatra: Schools To Remain Closed Till August 12; Is Your District On The List?

Keeping the Kanwar Yatra in view, Ghaziabad District Magistrate Ravindra Kumar Mandhad has directed all government, private, and recognised schools in the district, from Classes 1 to 12, to remain closed from August 4 to August 12. The decision has been taken to ensure the safety of children as the number of Shiva devotees on Kanwar routes continues to rise and extensive traffic diversions have made school transportation difficult. Similar orders have also been issued in other major districts of western Uttar Pradesh: All schools and colleges in Meerut will remain closed from August 3 to August 12 (10 days) due to the large gathering of Kanwariyas. Educational institutions in Muzaffarnagar will remain closed from August 3 to August 10 (8 days) to ensure the safe movement of Kanwar pilgrims. (Representative image/File)

Meanwhile, following a warning issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), schools, colleges, and coaching centres in more than 10 districts of Kerala remained closed on August 3 due to heavy rainfall. Schools and colleges in Palakkad, Pathanamthitta, Kannur, Kozhikode, Kasaragod, Wayanad, Malappuram, Thrissur, Kottayam, and Idukki districts have been directed to remain shut. The administration said the decision was taken to prioritise children’s safety, and the restrictions will remain in place until weather conditions improve. (Representative image/File)
