Financial hardships cannot hold back someone who is determined to work hard and overcome challenges. Ghanshyam Jaiswal, a resident of Bairiya in Muzaffarpur, Bihar, has demonstrated this through his dedication and perseverance. His father runs a tea and snacks stall on a cart at the Bairiya bus stand, while his mother is a homemaker. Despite his family’s limited financial means, Ghanshyam cleared the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) examination and went on to become an Assistant Commandant.
Ghanshyam’s father, Shatrudhan Shah, runs a tea and snacks stall at the Bairiya bus stand, while his mother, Geeta Devi, takes care of the household. Ghanshyam is the third among seven siblings. Despite family responsibilities and financial constraints, he remained committed to his education and continued preparing for the civil services.
Ghanshyam completed his primary education at Nathuni Bhagat Vidyalaya in Bairiya, Muzaffarpur, up to Class 10. He then completed his Class 12 education in Science from Rameshwar Singh College, Muzaffarpur. Later, he pursued an Honours Bachelor’s degree in Political Science. It was during his graduation that he began preparing for the Civil Services Examination.
As a child, Ghanshyam dreamed of studying at IIT and becoming an engineer. However, that dream could not be fulfilled. He later changed direction and decided to prepare for the civil services.
His UPSC preparation journey was far from easy. Ghanshyam faced repeated setbacks and failures before finally achieving success. He says he failed more than 10 different examinations and also appeared for the UPSC examination six times without clearing it. However, he refused to give up and continued working towards his goal.
According to Ghanshyam, his eventual success was the result of nearly five years of continuous struggle, hard work and perseverance. Even after facing repeated failures, he remained determined and kept faith in his efforts until he finally achieved his dream.
After the COVID-19 pandemic, Ghanshyam also started tutoring children up to Class 12. Teaching helped him financially while he continued his own studies and civil services preparation. At the same time, tutoring gave him an opportunity to revise and strengthen his own understanding of various subjects.
Ghanshyam Jaiswal’s journey serves as an inspiration to young people who may hesitate to dream big because of limited resources. Coming from a modest family in Bairiya, he cleared the UPSC examination through determination and perseverance. His story is a reminder that failure is not the end of the journey, but can instead become a stepping stone towards success.
