The cut off marks has seen a huge rise this year. The qualifying cut off for the Unreserved (UR)/Economically Weaker Section (EWS) category has increased sharply this year. It has gone up from 686–144 in 2025 to 715–213 in 2026. Around 10,000 students scored between 600 and 700, while 90,000 students scored between 600 and 500, which corresponds to ranks roughly between 10,000 to 30,000. The biggest challenge for these students is how to get into a government medical college. Speaking with Local18, Harpreet Singh, NEET medical exam preparator from Visionary Academy explained that the states with the highest number of medical seats are Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan. Therefore, if a child chooses a seat in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh as their counselling option, they will undoubtedly benefit. Meanwhile, Delhi has the lowest number of medical seats. Very high ranks are accepted here, making it extremely difficult to obtain a seat. Singh further explained that there will be three rounds of counseling. Seats change after each counseling session. Some students may opt out, hence one needs to be vigilant during each round of counselling. Keep an eye on every notification after registration.
