CJI Surya Kant completed his Bachelor of Arts (Geography) from Government Post Graduate College, Hisar in 1981.
He then studied law and obtained his Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from Maharishi Dayanand University, Rohtak in 1984.

Years later, while serving as a judge, CJI Kant pursued higher studies and earned his Master of Laws (LL.M.) from the Directorate of Distance Education, Kurukshetra University, in 2011. He secured First Class First in the course.

Surya Kant completed his early schooling in his native village of Petwar in Haryana’s Hisar district.
After graduating in arts from Government Post Graduate College, Hisar, he enrolled at Maharishi Dayanand University, Rohtak to study law.

CJI Kant completed his LL.B. in 1984 and began practising at the district courts in Hisar in the same year.
Despite his responsibilities in the judiciary, he continued his education and completed his LL.M. from Kurukshetra University through distance education.

His First Class First performance in the postgraduate law programme has been highlighted in official profiles and media reports.

Surya Kant’s educational qualifications accompanied his steady rise through the Indian judiciary. After progressing through the judicial system, he was elevated to the Supreme Court of India. He was later appointed the 53rd Chief Justice of India in November 2025, marking the culmination of his academic and judicial journey.
