A Ranchi student’s CBSE re-evaluation turnaround has taken over social media, with many calling it one of the most shocking board exam stories of the year. Avni Kejriwal, a Class 12 commerce student, went from scoring just above 92 percent to achieving a flawless 500 out of 500 after CBSE rechecked her answer sheets.
According to Avni, the biggest discrepancy appeared in English, a subject she considered her strongest. She revealed that nearly every subjective answer had unexpected marks deducted, leading her to apply for re-evaluation. Once the process was completed, her score jumped by 24 marks overall, including 19 additional marks in English and 5 more in Business Studies.
Sharing the update, ANI posted: “Ranchi, Jharkhand: Avni Kejriwal scored 500/500 marks in CBSE’s 12th class after re-evaluation.” Avni later explained, “Everyone is very happy right now. We weren’t expecting 500 marks, but everyone is very happy. I had 19 marks deducted in English, which I wasn’t expecting. English is my favourite subject and was my strongest one. That’s why I applied for re-evaluation. There were also 5 marks deducted in Business Studies. I had already gotten 100/100 in 3 subjects. Now my score has increased by 24 marks.”
In another video, Avni spoke about how around 0.5 marks had reportedly been deducted from almost every long-answer response in her English paper. She added that she now plans to pursue studies related to business and finance, though her final college decision is still pending. “I had commerce. So, business line, finance side and for college decisions, I am still waiting,” she said.
As expected, the internet instantly exploded with reactions. Many users were stunned that such a massive correction could happen during re-evaluation, especially in a language subject where full marks are considered extremely rare. One user questioned, “How come the person who was correcting the English paper could just simply miss 19 marks so easily? Very shocking, but congratulations to this kid.” Another user wrote, “She got 81 initially and 100 after re-eval. This is crazy.”
Others turned nostalgic while comparing today’s marking patterns with older CBSE trends. “Back then, the highest English score would be in only the 70s. Now kids are scoring 100,” one commenter wrote. Another added, “At that time in my age, the maximum marks obtained in English were 74-80.” Meanwhile, one user joked, “I can’t get this many marks even by cheating.” Another viral comment read: “i once gave my college paper for revaluation and they reduced my marks.”
One more user added, “Not a comment on any student, but there is something seriously wrong with the examination system that awards 500/500 to a student.”
