The Supreme Court has directed the Tamil Nadu government to restore 151 NEET SS seats by July 29, 2026. The court has also instructed the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) to complete the counselling process within two weeks.
The Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA), which welcomed the order, has requested the MCC to restart the NEET SS 2025 counselling process immediately and follow the Supreme Court’s directions without any further delay. The association stated that thousands of specialist doctors have been waiting for several months, and any more delay could affect their careers as well as patient care.
“…We sincerely appeal to MCC to resume NEET SS 2025 counselling immediately and implement the Hon’ble Court’s directions without any further delay. Thousands of specialist doctors have already waited for months, and every additional delay impacts both their careers and patient care,” the Association posted on X.

Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) had earlier postponed the choice filling for Round-2 of NEET SS Counselling 2025.
Now, following SC’s order, the new NEET SS 2025 counselling schedule is expected to be announced soon on the official MCC website.
The National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test Super Specialty (NEET SS) is the sole eligibility and entrance examination for admission to Super Specialty Courses, which include:
All DM/MCh Courses nationwide, including those at Private Medical Colleges/Institutions/Universities/Deemed Universities.
All DM/MCh courses at Armed Forces Medical Services Institutions.
All DrNB Super-Specialty Courses (excluding Direct 6 Years DrNB Courses).
As many as 156 public and private medical schools, as well as Armed Forces Medical Service (AFMS) institutions, use NEET SS to admit students to 2,447 seats in Doctor of Medicine (DM) and Masters of Surgery (MCh) programmes.
