The Centre has informed the Rajya Sabha that around 22.8 per cent of students who appeared for the CBSE Class 12 board examinations this year requested scanned copies of their evaluated answer sheets. In a written response to questions raised by MP Anil Kumar Yadav Mandadi, Minister of State for Education Jayant Chaudhary shared details on the number of students who sought re-evaluation of their answer sheets and the fees charged for post-result services, reported Times Now.
According to the minister, 17.69 lakh students appeared for the Class 12 board examinations in 2026. Of these, 4.04 lakh students, which is about 22.8 per cent of the students who took the exams, applied for scanned copies of their evaluated answer books. Meanwhile, more than 1.68 lakh students, or nearly 9.5 per cent of the total candidates, sought verification of issues and/or re-evaluation of their answer sheets.
In his reply, Chaudhary said that the CBSE had significantly reduced the fees for post-result services through a notification issued on May 17, 2026, to ensure that no student was unable to access these facilities after the declaration of results. The revised fee structure covered services such as obtaining scanned copies of evaluated answer books, verification of issues observed in answer books, and re-evaluation.
He also noted that candidates whose marks increased after re-evaluation would receive a full refund of the re-evaluation fee.
Under the revised fee structure, students were charged Rs 100 for each scanned copy of an evaluated answer book, Rs 100 for verification of issues observed in an answer book, and Rs 25 per question for re-evaluation. The minister reiterated that the re-evaluation fee is refunded in full to candidates whose scores improve following the process.
The CBSE conducted the Class 12 board examinations between February 17 and April 9, 2026. The results were announced on May 13, 2026. The copies were evaluated using the On Screen Marking process which led to a controversy with several students alleging discrepancies in their results.
The On-Screen Marking (OSM) system for CBSE Class 12 exams has led to student concerns about unusually low marks and stricter assessment.
