The CUET UG 2026 provisional answer key, released on June 9, has sparked fresh controversy, with candidates alleging mismatches between the question IDs listed in the key and the questions they actually attempted. The issue first surfaced on microblogging site, X, after a student alleged discrepancy in question ID and answer key.
The candidate wrote, “What is this @NTA_Exams? My CUET answer key is wrong, not matching any question ID.” The post quickly went viral, with many more candidates joining the discussion and sharing comparable concerns.
In response, the National Testing Agency (NTA) asked the candidate to share their application number via direct message for further investigation.
Several students have also questioned the accuracy of recorded responses, with some claiming the answers shown do not match what they remember selecting. Others have raised concerns over unusually low scores, alleging errors in the answer key. The Rs 200 fee per question to challenge discrepancies has also drawn criticism, with candidates calling it excessive given the alleged errors.
@NTA_Exams @dpradhanbjpMany CUET students are shocked by unusually low scores in the provisional answer key. Numerous candidates report that the key shows wrong options or doesn’t match what they marked in the exam. This is causing massive distress.— Dilip Lal (@laldilip91) June 10, 2026
I request a verification of my recorded CUET responses. A few answers shown do not match what I distinctly remember selecting. I can identify specific questions with certainty. Were screen recordings maintained during the exam? Kindly assist. Please tag @NTA_Exams— Muskan (@gyaankenashe) June 10, 2026
The NTA has said that all objections will be reviewed by subject experts, and any valid challenges will lead to corrections in the final answer key, which will be used to prepare results.
The objection window remains open until June 11. This year, 15.68 lakh candidates registered for CUET UG, which was conducted between May 13 and June 3, with a re-test held in early June for those affected by technical issues.
