The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati has introduced an M.Tech. degree programme in Robotics and Artificial Intelligence for recent graduates and working professionals looking to strengthen their expertise in AI-driven robotic systems.
The application portal for the first cohort is now open; candidates can apply on iitg.ac.in by July 15, and classes will commence on August 10. A notable aspect of the programme is that a GATE score is not mandatory, as selection will be based on a written test and/or interview conducted by the Institute.
The curriculum blends core elements of robotics, AI, and automation to develop advanced technical skills and is suited to fresh graduates, working professionals, and parallel degree seekers who want a strong grounding in Robotics and AI and exposure to cutting-edge technologies for their careers. Designed to align with industry requirements, it offers flexibility through multi-entry and multi-exit options and is structured to accommodate professional commitments, with no age limit for applicants.
Offered by the School of Interdisciplinary Studies and Sustainability, the programme follows a hybrid model with online classes and on-campus labs and final examinations at the IIT Guwahati campus. All classes will be conducted online and recorded so that students can learn at their own pace, while final examinations will be held at the IIT Guwahati campus. The minimum duration of the programme is 2 years, with the possibility of extending up to 5 years, allowing participants to manage both academic and professional responsibilities.
The programme offers multiple exit routes with recognised certifications. To be eligible, candidates must hold a 4-year or 5-year Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Electrical, Electronics, Computer Science, Mechanical, Production, Civil, IT, Design, or related disciplines, or a Master’s degree in relevant fields, with at least 60% marks or 6.0/10 CPI, along with at least 60% marks in Class XII (or equivalent), and must have studied Mathematics at least up to Class 12 level.
Speaking about the programme, Prof. Hemant B. Kaushik, Dean, Outreach Education and Skilling, IIT Guwahati, said, “The program addresses the growing demand for expertise in intelligent systems, offering cutting-edge, interdisciplinary learning in machine learning, computer vision, and robotics through a flexible format. With a strong focus on real-world applications, it aims to empower learners to drive technological transformation and contribute meaningfully to industry and society.”
