The IIT Bombay Educational Outreach has launched an e-Postgraduate Diploma in Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence (CS & AI). The programme is designed for software developers and engineers, IT professionals, and data scientists who have acquired computer science knowledge either through their undergraduate education or professional experience. It is also suitable for fresh graduates with a foundational understanding of computer science.

Designed and delivered by IIT Bombay faculty, with Great Learning as the EdTech partner, the programme brings together core computer science concepts and contemporary developments in AI and machine learning. It combines synchronous and asynchronous online learning with an in-person campus immersion at IIT Bombay.

The curriculum is structured across two baskets: Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning.

The AI and ML basket covers areas such as Generative AI, Large Language Models (LLMs), AI Agents, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), Model Context Protocol (MCP), Reinforcement Learning, Computer Vision, Natural Language Processing (NLP), and Deep Learning. The Computer Science basket includes Algorithms and Complexity, Blockchain, Web and Software Security, Cryptography and Network Security, and Big Data System Internals.

Learners are required to complete six courses, with at least two courses selected from each basket. The programme can be completed in one year, while offering the flexibility to complete it over a period of up to three years.

“The programme will equip learners not just to use AI tools, but to understand Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence at a foundational level. This deeper understanding will help them adapt, compete and excel in the increasingly AI-centric world we are entering”, said Prof. Vinay J. Ribeiro, e PGD(CS & AI) Faculty Coordinator, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, IIT Bombay.

“AI is becoming integral to software development and computing systems. Professionals need more than familiarity with AI tools; they need strong foundations in computer science and an understanding of how its principles support the design and deployment of reliable, scalable AI systems. The ePGD in Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence brings these areas together, helping learners develop the technical depth needed to pursue high-demand roles in AI”, said Mohan Lakhamraju, Founder and CEO, Great Learning.

Upon successful completion of the programme, learners will receive IIT Bombay e-alumni status.
