The number of students in India taking the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme (DP) and Career-related Programme (CP) examinations has continued to increase, according to data released by the International Baccalaureate for the May 2026 examination session.
A total of 6,265 students from India received their DP and CP results this year. This is higher than the 6,083 students who received their results in 2025 and the 5,672 students in 2024. The figures show that more students in India are choosing IB programmes each year. At the same time, Indian students have continued to score higher than the global average in the Diploma Programme.
Globally, 209,607 students received their DP and CP results in the May 2026 session, up from 202,102 in 2025 and 192,866 in 2024, reported Indian Express. The IB said the number of students receiving results in India rose by 3 per cent compared with the previous year.

The DP is generally regarded as equivalent to Class 12 in the Indian education system. The IB also offers the Middle Years Programme (MYP), which broadly corresponds to the secondary school stage or Class 10. Results for the May 2026 MYP examinations are expected to be announced on August 1.
The latest data also shows that students in India have consistently outperformed the global average in the Diploma Programme over the last three years. In 2026, the average DP score for Indian students was 32.78 points, compared with the global average of 30.88 points. In 2025, students in India recorded an average score of 32.75 points, while the global average stood at 30.62. In 2024, the average score in India was 32.51 points, compared with 30.32 globally.
The figures also show that participation has increased steadily both in India and around the world. Since 2024, the number of IB candidates in India has grown by nearly 600 students, while the global number has increased by more than 16,700 students.
The IB Diploma Programme is a two-year course in which students study six subjects across different disciplines. In addition to these subjects, they complete core components such as the Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge, and Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS).
