Chitkara University has announced that September 28 to October 1, 2026, will be observed as “Non-Teaching Working Days” for faculty and staff at its Punjab campus. According to a circular issued by the university, the four days will be treated as non-teaching working days “due to administrative reasons”. The circular is addressed to all faculty and staff members of Chitkara University, Punjab.

The announcement comes after students protested at the university’s Rajpura campus following the circulation of unverified claims on social media. Students had sought clarity over allegations concerning the deaths or disappearance of female students, reports of screams allegedly heard from the girls’ hostel and questions surrounding the presence of a priest on campus.

The university, however, denied that any student had died or committed suicide and said the claims circulating on social media were false. Police subsequently began looking into the allegations and complaints raised by students.

The controversy reportedly began after a video circulated online claiming to show a “ghost” on campus. This was followed by several claims and rumours concerning a student’s alleged suicide and missing female students. Police officials said the identity of the alleged missing students was not known and that the claims would be investigated.

The university also clarified that an ambulance seen near the hostel was connected to a student returning from hospital and was not related to any death or suicide. It further said that the priest whose presence had prompted questions among students had visited the hostel to meet his daughter.

The development comes amid heightened attention on the Rajpura campus following the recent protests and the circulation of unverified information online. The police investigation into the claims is ongoing.
