The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has cleared the appointment of Lokhande Prashant Sitaram, a 2001-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Mizoram and Union Territories (AGMUT) cadre, as Additional Secretary in the Department of Home under the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), reported ANI.

According to an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) on July 2, Lokhande will continue to hold the additional charge of Chairperson of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in the Ministry of Education until a regular incumbent is appointed or until further orders, whichever comes first.

The appointment order states that the ACC has approved the appointment of “Shri Lokhande Prashant Sitaram, IAS (AGMUT:2001), Chairperson, Central Board of Secondary Education, Ministry of Education, as Additional Secretary, Department of Home, Ministry of Home Affairs, with the additional charge of the post of Chairperson, Central Board of Secondary Education, Ministry of Education.”

Lokhande assumed charge as CBSE Chairperson on June 2, replacing Rahul Singh, who was transferred to the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare. His appointment was notified by the Ministry of Education earlier this month.

Rahul Singh has since been appointed as Additional Secretary in the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare under the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare.

In a separate administrative decision, Varun Bhardwaj of the Indian Information Service (IIS) has been appointed Secretary of the Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi. He succeeds IAS officer Himanshu Gupta, who has been repatriated to his parent cadre before the completion of his central deputation.

Bhardwaj, currently serving as Director in the Department of Higher Education under the Ministry of Education, has been appointed to the post on a lateral shift under the Central Staffing Scheme. His tenure will run until September 19, 2027, completing the combined five-year deputation period under the scheme.

The ACC has also approved the proposal of the Department of School Education and Literacy for the premature repatriation of Himanshu Gupta to his parent cadre in the Ministry of Home Affairs on administrative grounds. The repatriation has been approved with the stipulated condition relating to the extended cooling-off period.
