A 2016-batch IAS officer with a medical background, Priyanka Ala has taken charge as the new District Collector of Hyderabad, following a major administrative reshuffle by the Government of Telangana.

Ala replaces 2010-batch officer Hari Chandana Dasari, who had been serving as Hyderabad Collector since June 2025. Her appointment is part of a wider bureaucratic shake-up that saw nearly 30 IAS officers transferred across the state, signalling a broader realignment at the top levels of administration.

So, who is Priyanka Ala?

Trained as a doctor before entering the civil services, Ala holds an MBBS degree — a detail that often stands out in her profile. She cleared the Civil Services Examination and joined the Telangana cadre, going on to build a career that blends administrative work with an understanding of public health systems.

Before this posting, she was serving as the Zonal Commissioner of Khairatabad in Hyderabad, handling key aspects of urban governance. She has also previously worked as the District Collector of Bhadradri Kothagudem, where she dealt with district-level administration and implementation challenges on the ground.

Her familiarity with Telangana — both professionally and personally — is seen as an advantage as she steps into one of the most high-profile district roles in the state. Hyderabad, with its mix of rapid urban expansion, civic pressures and governance demands, presents a complex brief for any administrator.

The reshuffle that brought her in also moved several senior officials into new roles. Hari Chandana Dasari, for instance, has been appointed Secretary to the Labour, Employment, Training and Factories Department, among other changes across departments and districts.

For now, all eyes will be on how Ala navigates the capital’s administrative challenges — from civic management to coordination across departments — in a role that often comes with both visibility and pressure.
