Pralhad Joshi said that textbooks and curricula must evolve in line with technological changes and equip students to understand and use AI confidently and responsibly.

Revised NCERT textbooks for Classes 10 to 12 are currently being prepared in “mission mode”, Union Education Minister Pralhad Joshi said on Tuesday.

The minister said that textbooks for Classes 1 to 9, aligned with the new National Curriculum Framework (NCF), have already been released.

Joshi made the remarks while addressing the 66th Foundation Day celebration of the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT).

“NCERT is playing a crucial role in building a Viksit Bharat and nurturing skilled, capable, and globally responsible human resources through quality education. The new textbooks for classes 1 to 9 are already out and the textbooks for classes 10 to 12 are being prepared in mission mode,” he said.

The Education Minister also highlighted the growing role of artificial intelligence (AI) in everyday life, particularly among younger users. He said that textbooks and curricula must evolve in line with technological changes and equip students to understand and use AI confidently and responsibly, reported PTI.

“With passing years, the AI usage is increasing and even younger groups are using it. Our textbooks and curricula must evolve with these changes and help our young learners to understand use and engage with AI confidently and also responsibly,” Joshi said.

He added that the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 addresses several of these emerging challenges and requirements. Joshi also stressed the need to make parents more aware of the changing educational and technological environment so they can appropriately guide, counsel and monitor their children.

Highlighting India’s demographic advantage, Joshi said the country’s large youth population makes its human resources valuable not only for India but also for the rest of the world.

“The new National Education Policy (NEP) talks about all these challenges and requirements. Works should also be done to make parents more alert about this and counsel and monitor children accordingly,” he said.

Joshi added that India’s human resource ranking is expected to improve further in the coming years and said the Viksit Bharat mission has significance beyond India’s borders.
