As CBSE grapples with scrutiny over its On-Screen Marking (OSM) system, triggered by allegations of answer-sheet mismatches, blurred scans, portal glitches and concerns over the tender process, the spotlight has shifted to the officials responsible for running India’s largest school board.

Heads are likely to roll in the CBSE as the Ministry of Education intensifies its scrutiny of alleged irregularities within the board.

Explanations offered by CBSE on the tender-related issue have reportedly failed to satisfy the ministry, with accountability now expected to be fixed at multiple levels, according to The Times of India.

Who Runs CBSE?

Here’s a look at the key figures who oversee examinations, academics, affiliations, technology, training and administration within CBSE.

Rahul Singh – Chairman, CBSE

The Chairman is the chief executive of CBSE and oversees the board’s overall functioning, policy implementation, examinations, affiliations, academics, and administration. Rahul Singh, an IAS officer, currently heads the board.

Himanshu Gupta – Secretary

The Secretary is CBSE’s chief administrative officer and handles administration, finance, affiliations, legal matters, audit, and public relations.

Dr. Sanyam Bhardwaj – Controller of Examinations

Perhaps the most visible CBSE official during board exam season, the Controller of Examinations oversees Class 10 and 12 board exams, result processing, evaluation systems, and examination administration across the country.

Dr. Praggya M. Singh – Director (Academics)
