It is often said that when a person’s determination is strong, even life’s toughest challenges cannot hold them back. The journey of IAS officer Samyak Jain is a powerful example of this. There came a time in his life when he lost his eyesight permanently. The world went dark, but his dreams stayed bright. Where many would have given up, Jain steadied himself and resolved to achieve something remarkable.
Jain decided to appear for the country’s toughest exam, the UPSC Civil Services Examination. His mother played a pivotal role in this journey. She sat with him in the examination hall and wrote his answers, while his friends supported him at every step. Through relentless hard work, Jain secured the 7th All India Rank in the UPSC Civil Services Examination, becoming a source of inspiration for millions of young people. His story is not just about success, but also about courage, struggle, and an indomitable spirit.
Lost His Eyesight At The Age Of 20
There came a phase in the life of Delhi resident Samyak Jain when his vision started deteriorating gradually. By the age of 20, he had completely lost his eyesight. This could have broken anyone, but Jain refused to let this hardship turn into his weakness. He continued his studies and fought every day to keep his dreams alive.
Jain often says that the support of his parents and friends was his greatest strength. His parents work for Air India. His father was posted abroad, so his mother was always by his side. During the UPSC prelims, his mother acted as his scribe and wrote his paper. In the mains exam, a friend helped him as his writer. After the results were announced, Jain said that he gives the greatest credit for his success to his mother.
Studied At IIMC And JNU
Samyak Jain was a bright student from the very beginning. After completing his schooling in Delhi, he obtained a bachelor’s degree in English. He then pursued a postgraduate diploma in English Journalism from the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC). Later, he completed a master’s degree in International Relations from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU). For the UPSC exam, he chose Political Science and International Relations as his optional subjects.
JNU Showed Him The Path To UPSC Preparation
Jain shared that while studying at JNU, he saw many students preparing for the Civil Services Examination. This environment inspired him to consider the UPSC. He gathered detailed information about the exam and began preparing with full dedication. Despite difficult circumstances, he never lost hope.
Success In The Second Attempt
Samyak Jain cleared the UPSC Civil Services Examination in his second attempt. He created history by securing the 7th All India Rank and becoming an IAS officer. After the results, he said that he had not expected such a high rank.
