The UGC-NET consists of two sections with a total of 300 marks. Both sections contain multiple-choice, objective-type questions. Paper I carries 100 marks and include 50 questions. It is designed to evaluate the candidate’s research and teaching aptitude. Its primary aim is to assess the candidate’s reasoning ability, reading comprehension, divergent thinking, and general awareness. Paper II carries 200 marks and include 100 questions. It assess’ the candidate’s subject-specific knowledge and is based on the subject chosen by the candidate.
As per UGC NET guidelines, there is no negative marking for wrong answers, and each right response will receive two marks. Additionally, unanswered questions will not result in a deduction of marks.
The NTA guarantees that six per cent of applicants who take the exam will be qualified. Additionally, the government’s reservation regulations determine the candidates’ available slots. The candidate’s scores from several slots are added up to determine the cut-off.
