The Railway Board has approved the recruitment of 5,165 posts under the RRB NTPC recruitment 2026. The recruitment will cover both graduate-level and Class 12-level posts. However, the application process has not started yet. Candidates will be able to apply only after the Railway Recruitment Board issues the Centralised Employment Notification (CEN) containing the detailed recruitment information.
3,477 posts for graduates
According to the Railway Board, 3,477 graduate-level NTPC posts have been approved.
The post-wise distribution includes:
Goods Train Manager: 2,750 posts
Senior Clerk-cum-Typist: 371 posts
Junior Accounts Assistant-cum-Typist: 300 posts
Chief Commercial-cum-Ticket Supervisor: 56 posts
1,688 posts for Class 12 candidates
A total of 1,688 posts have also been approved for candidates who have passed Class 12.
These include:
Commercial-cum-Ticket Clerk: 700 posts
Junior Clerk-cum-Typist: 600 posts
Accounts Clerk-cum-Typist: 200 posts
Trains Clerk: 188 posts
Recruitment process to move forward in September
The Railway Board has directed zonal railways and production units to submit their final manpower requirements between September 7 and 15.
The process will subsequently move to the Chief Personnel Officer’s office from September 16 to 22. Further processing at the Railway Recruitment Board level is scheduled between September 23 and 25, followed by action at the nodal RRB level from September 26.
Application date, eligibility details awaited
The Railway Board has not yet announced the application opening date, age limit, educational qualifications, application fee or examination schedule.
Candidates will have to wait for the official CEN notification for complete details regarding eligibility and the recruitment process.
Typing test language selection mandatory
The RRB has also issued instructions for candidates appearing for the typing test under graduate-level NTPC recruitment.
Candidates must select their preferred typing-test language — Hindi or English — by 7 pm on September 15. Those who fail to make a selection within the stipulated deadline will have to take the typing test in English. The language choice cannot be changed later.
For Hindi typing, candidates will have access to Krutidev and Mangal fonts.
The typing test will have a total duration of 16 minutes, including a one-minute warm-up, a five-minute break and a 10-minute main typing session.
Candidates will be required to achieve a minimum typing speed of 30 words per minute in English and 25 words per minute in Hindi. Those who fail to meet the prescribed speed will not have their typing test evaluated.
