PM Internship Scheme: Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, and other industrially developed states have attracted a large number of participating companies.

Maharashtra has emerged as the leading state in terms of internship opportunities under the third round of the Prime Minister Internship Scheme (PMIS) followed by Tamil Nadu. Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh continues to remain among the top states in overall candidate participation under the government’s flagship internship initiative. The state has consistently featured among the leading contributors in terms of applications and selections, highlighting the strong demand for industry exposure among young job seekers.
As per the latest data, that states with established business networks and manufacturing bases continue to account for a significant share of PMIS opportunities. Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, and other industrially developed states have attracted a large number of participating companies.
The scheme aims to connect young graduates with real-world workplace experience by providing internships across multiple sectors, including manufacturing, financial services, technology, healthcare, and consumer industries.
Stipend For Interns
Under PMIS, selected interns receive financial assistance during their internship period. The scheme provides a monthly stipend of Rs 5,000, along with a one-time joining support amount, to help candidates gain professional experience while receiving financial support.
With Maharashtra gaining momentum in Round 3 and Uttar Pradesh maintaining strong participation, the latest phase indicates growing interest among states and companies in expanding industry-linked learning opportunities for India’s youth.
Final-year students of undergraduate and postgraduate courses can now participate in the Prime Minister’s Internship Scheme. Previously, completion of a degree was mandatory. However, after consultation with the Ministry of Education and the Department of Higher Education, the eligibility criteria has been expanded. The government believes this will provide students with practical experience working in leading companies before completing their formal education.
Final-year students must submit a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from their institution at the time of application. This NOC must clearly state that the internship will not negatively impact the student’s studies. This certificate must be signed by the college’s Head of Department (HOD), Dean, Principal, or Training and Placement Officer.
