Jammu-born entrepreneur Onkar Singh Batra has added another remarkable achievement to an already extraordinary journey. From creating a website at the age of seven to developing a satellite at 16, Batra has spent much of his childhood exploring technology, entrepreneurship, and space.
By the age of 19, he had moved to Silicon Valley and raised $4.3 million for his space-tech startup, Apolink. Today, at 20, he is working to build a continuous communication layer that can keep satellites connected even when they move beyond the line of sight of ground stations.
Challenged Einstein’s theory of time dilation at age 12
Batra created his first website when he was just seven years old, earning recognition as the youngest male webmaster. According to his LinkedIn profile, at 12, he wrote a 49-page book titled When The Time Stops, which challenged Albert Einstein’s theory of time dilation. His work earned him recognition as the “world’s youngest theoretical author.”
At 13, he launched his own company. Three years later, at the age of 16, while still a school student in Jammu, he created InQube, which is described as India’s first open-source satellite.
Founder and CEO at 20
Batra is now the founder and CEO of Palo Alto-based Apolink, a space-tech company focused on satellite relay infrastructure. The startup aims to address a long-standing challenge in satellite communications: maintaining connectivity when satellites move outside the line of sight of ground stations.
Born in Jammu, Batra developed an interest in computers from an early age. His father worked in the IT sector, which helped fuel his curiosity about technology. That early exposure eventually led him toward engineering and entrepreneurship, and later to Silicon Valley.
His journey has included research, teaching engineering students, entrepreneurial ventures, and several recognitions, including claims of world records and a National Child Award.

Batra founded Batra Technologies in 2018 and United India Publishing in 2019. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he helped develop an interactive web platform that connected people with doctors and provided access to COVID-19 information. The platform was developed with support from doctors at Government Medical College, Jammu.
For this work, Batra received the Prime Minister’s National Child Award from the President of India, one of the country’s highest national honours for children.
