Solving problems becomes easy when concepts are clear — this belief has propelled Shubham Kumar of Gaya, Bihar, to an outstanding All India Rank 6 in JEE Main. The 17-year-old has scored an impressive 295 out of 300 marks.

Shubham, born on September 20, 2008, comes from a humble family background. His father, Shivkumar, is a businessman, while his mother, Kanchan Devi, is a homemaker. Before his JEE Main achievement, he had already proved his academic excellence by scoring 98.5 percent in his 10th-grade examinations.

Shubham attributes his success to consistent hard work, disciplined self-study, and a clear focus on concepts. “I engage in self-study for 6 to 8 hours daily. I revise the topics taught in class on the same day and regularly assess my preparation level by taking mock tests,” he shared. He also took coaching from Allen Career Institute in Kota.

Shubham’s preparation strategy revolved around identifying and correcting his mistakes and repeatedly practising weak topics until he mastered them. He firmly believes that having strong conceptual clarity is the key to solving even the most challenging problems. “I focus on concepts, as having clear concepts makes it easier to solve problems,” he said.

Handling exam pressure is often a major challenge for aspirants, but Shubham approached it with a positive mindset. He remained focused on his goal and maintained faith in himself throughout the preparation journey. “I handled the pressure of the exam positively. I always kept my focus on my goal and maintained faith in myself,” he added.
