The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has received security clearance from an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) panel for a newly developed examiner-facing portal, clearing the way for the re-evaluation of answer sheets of thousands of students.
The move comes after concerns were raised over vulnerabilities in the board’s earlier post-result evaluation ecosystem, prompting a comprehensive security review and overhaul of the system.
According to sources, CBSE has developed an upgraded and highly secure re-evaluation portal under the close supervision and monitoring of IIT experts. The revamped platform has been designed to strengthen data protection, improve transparency and ensure the integrity of the re-evaluation process.
Officials said special attention has been paid to issues flagged during earlier audits, with the focus on safeguarding student records, securing login credentials and preventing unauthorised access to sensitive information.
As the re-evaluation process begins for thousands of students, the board has introduced additional layers of security aimed at mitigating cyber threats and protecting examination-related data.
IIT Panel Approves New System
Sources in the Ministry of Education said the IIT-led panel has approved the new portal after a detailed security assessment.
According to officials, the upgraded system is based on the existing Edu-Coempt platform but has undergone significant modifications to enhance security.
“The base code has been taken from the Edu-Coempt portal and major changes have been introduced. The modifications are not related to functionality but are focused entirely on security enhancements,” a source said.
The ministry claimed that with IIT experts overseeing the process, the platform has been strengthened to the highest levels to eliminate security vulnerabilities during the scanning and re-evaluation of answer sheets.
Earlier Security Concerns Addressed
A senior ministry official said the previous Coempt Onnmark portal had multiple security weaknesses that could potentially allow access to sensitive data and records.
“There were several vulnerabilities through which data could be accessed. We had to carefully examine the system and close every possible loophole,” the official said.
The official added that extensive testing and auditing were conducted before the portal was cleared for deployment.
Re-Evaluation Process to Begin
With the IIT panel’s approval now in place, CBSE is expected to proceed with the re-evaluation process for students who have applied for verification and reassessment of their answer sheets.
Officials said the new platform is intended to make the process more transparent, secure and fair while ensuring that students’ personal and academic information remains protected.
The development comes amid increasing emphasis on cybersecurity in educational institutions, particularly in systems handling large volumes of student data and examination records.
