The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has called for school bandh in Telangana on Tuesday, June 23 to protest over high fees across private schools. The student organisation alleged irregularities in private educational institutions, including excessive fee structures and compulsory uniform-related purchases.
According to the ABVP, the protest aims to urge the government to introduce stricter regulations to curb arbitrary fee hikes and improve accountability within the priavte education sector.
The organisation stated that parents who have enrolled their students in private schools across Telangana, have expressed concerns over exorbitant fees that have placed a financial burden on them. Based on these grievances, the ABVP has approached the Telangana government, seeking regulation of private school fees and stronger oversight of the private education system, reported Moneycontrol.
The ABVP is also demanding comprehensive reforms covering nearly 23,000 private schools in the state, including the regulation of fee structures and annual fee increases. In addition, it has demanded a dedicated authority be formed to monitor and inspect school fee practices.
Through the bandh, the student’s organisation aims to urge government to take action and enforce greater transparency in admissions, academics, and fee structures while preventing unreasonable fee hikes.
Meanwhile, students and their parents must note that there has been no official announcement regarding school operations, as decisions will depend on local authorities and individual school managements. Parents are advised to stay in touch with their children’s schools for updates on whether institutions will remain open or closed on June 23, 2026, due to the statewide bandh.
Last month, around 50 parents staged a protest outside Wisdom Tree School in Greater Noida over a fee hike, alleging an arbitrary increase of up to 60 per cent. The school’s parent committee alleged that the institution initially offered lower fees to boost enrolment, but revised the fee structure once students had joined. The school, however, denied the charges, claiming the hike was within the 7.23 per cent cap set for self-financed schools under the Uttar Pradesh State Government’s Fees Regulatory Act.
