The Central Board of Secondary Examination is set to open the application process for the re-evaluation and verification of CBSE class 12 results 2026 today, May 19. Students must note that CBSE has a three-step post-result process to help identify possible evaluation errors.

Verification of Marks: This is the first level of review, where CBSE checks for totalling mistakes, unchecked answers, errors in transferring marks, and data-entry issues. At this stage, the board does not reassess how well the answers were written; it only verifies whether the marks were added and recorded correctly.

Photocopy of Evaluated Answer Sheet: Students can then apply for a scanned copy of their evaluated answer book. It will allow them to see whether all answers were checked, spot questions where marks may have been missed, and decide whether re-evaluation is necessary.

Re-evaluation of Answers: In the final step, students may request re-evaluation of specific questions. During this process, answers are checked again, marking discrepancies are reviewed, and extra marks may be given if evaluation mistakes are found.

Can CBSE Marks Increase After Re-evaluation?

CBSE marks can increase after re-evaluation. However, they can also decrease or stay the same. Once the review is completed, the revised marks are final. Many education experts advise obtaining the answer sheet before opting for re-evaluation.

Marks usually increase when an answer was left unevaluated or step-marking was not given, or totalling errors occurred, or a correct answer did not receive proper credit. If marks increase, the higher score replaces the original one; if marks decrease, the lower score becomes final. Students cannot choose between the old and revised marks once the process is over.

CBSE 12th Re-evaluation Revised Fee Structure, Refund Details

This year, CBSE has stated that whose marks increase after re-evaluation will get a full refund of the re-evaluation fee. The board has also reduced fees for several post-result services following concerns about the On-Screen Marking (OSM) system.

— Rs 100 for scanned answer sheet

— Rs 100 for verification of marks

— Rs 25 per question for re-evaluation

The best approach is to first examine the scanned answer sheet carefully and identify clear discrepancies. Re-evaluation will be helpful if students feel there could be a huge discrepancy between expected marks and the one received.
