JEE Advanced Result 2026: According to the NIRF Rankings, BITS Pilani is the highest-ranked private engineering college in the country, placed at 11th.

JEE Advanced Result 2026: IIT Roorkee has announced the JEE Advanced 2026 result, eagerly awaited by lakhs of candidates. Students can view their scores on the official JEE Advanced 2026 website, jeeadv.ac.in. Their JEE Advanced performance will determine admission to India’s top engineering institutes. Below is an overview of the top 20 engineering colleges in India, as per the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2025, released by the Ministry of Education on September 4, 2025.
IIT Madras Secured Rank 1 For 10 Consecutive Years
For the 10th year in a row, IIT Madras has been ranked the top engineering college in the country, maintaining its leading position with a score of 88.72. IIT Delhi and IIT Bombay secured the second and third positions, respectively.
The rankings of the top five engineering colleges in the country have remained unchanged. IIT Kanpur and IIT Kharagpur continued to hold the fourth and fifth ranks, respectively. IIT Roorkee retained its position at sixth place.
IIT Hyderabad caused a major shake-up in the NIRF rankings by moving from eighth to seventh place, while IIT Guwahati’s rank slipped to eighth. In 2024, IIT Guwahati was ranked ninth. The ninth and tenth positions remained unchanged in 2025, with IIT Tiruchirappalli and IIT BHU (Varanasi) holding their respective ranks.
Top Private Engineering Colleges
According to the NIRF Rankings 2025, BITS Pilani is the highest-ranked private engineering college in the country, placed at 11th. NIT Tiruchirappalli, meanwhile, ranked 9th, and NIT Rourkela secured the 13th position. This highlights that top-quality engineering education is available beyond the IITs. Among other private institutions, SRM Institute of Science and Technology ranked 14th, and Vellore Institute of Technology ranked 16th.
These rankings underscore the continued dominance of IITs in technical education, with NIT Trichy being the only non-IIT institution to feature in this elite list. Introduced in 2015, NIRF evaluates higher education institutions based on their overall performance and across various categories such as engineering, management, medical, law, and universities.
