Indian Student Earns 6 STEM Majors From UC Berkeley, Internet Calls Him ‘Nightmare Of Every Kid’
While most struggle to complete even one degree at a time, an Indian student at UC Berkeley completed not one, two, or three, but six courses at once. Arhaan Aggarwal, from the Class of 2026, set an academic record by completing six majors simultaneously, as revealed in an Instagram post by a family member. According to the post, he completed six STEM majors: Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Cognitive Science, and Environmental Economics & Policy.
“He came alone. He leaves with a family. This stole tells part of the story. The rest no stole could ever hold. Six majors. All STEM. One human being,” Arhaan’s family member wrote in a post on Instagram alongside a picture of him holding his stole with all his majors written over it.
The individual added, “There is no recorded evidence of any other student in the history of American universities completing six STEM majors simultaneously. Not one. Anywhere.” And Arhaan not only completed his own degrees but also taught two graduate-level courses in Accounting and Computer Science at the same time. “He taught two graduate-level courses — Accounting and Computer Science — while himself taking graduate-level courses. Over 333 units in total. While others counted down to graduation, Arhaan was still adding to his stack,” the post read.
The family member further stated that Arhaan’s friends travelled from different cities to attend his graduation ceremonies. As per the post, strangers stopped him for photographers, and some people who had never met him bought drinks for his friends simply because they wanted to be part of the moment.
“He was cheered through celebrations that went late into the night. Not once. Six times. Because greatness, when it is genuine, needs no announcement. People simply feel it and they come. They say one day like this is worth a lifetime,” the person further mentioned.
The heartfelt post ended with the person saying, “Arhaan, you gave us six. You came to Berkeley alone, son. You built a world there. Now go change the one waiting for you outside it. We love you. Beyond every word we know.”
While tons of people congratulated the student on his accomplishment, a section of social media had something different to comment. Some said that taking up multiple majors at UC Berkeley is no big deal, while others shared that Arhaan did just one degree with multiple majors.
One person jokingly commented, “He is the dream of every Indian parent and the nightmare of every Indian kid.”
“Technically, he has 1 BA with multiple majors. He is listing this out like he has multiple degrees,” said one user.
Another individual shared, “This is really easy at Berkeley because tons of classes overlap majors, and L&S majors at Berkeley are already extremely easy as it is.”
“This doesn’t really mean much; lots of majors have tons of overlap depending on the university’s course structure. It’s really one degree and some add-ons,” a different person said.
Meanwhile, someone joked, “Literally the final boss of Indian parenting.”
