A Parliamentary Standing Committee on education, women, children, youth and sports has called officials from the Union Education Ministry and the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) for a meeting on June 2 to examine concerns raised by students over the on-screen marking (OSM) system used in Class 12 board examinations and the rollout of the three-language formula for Classes 9 and 10, reported Hindustan Times.
The 31-member panel, chaired by Congress MP Digvijaya Singh, will also meet on June 1 with officials from the National Testing Agency (NTA), the Union education ministry, and the Union Health Ministry to discuss broader issues including pen-and-paper exams versus computer-based testing (CBT), as well as concerns related to NEET and the NTA.
According to the agenda circulated via a Rajya Sabha Secretariat notice dated May 25, the committee will hold meetings on both June 1 and June 2.
On June 1 at 10 AM, the panel is scheduled to consider and adopt its “381st Report on Action Taken by the Government” regarding recommendations in the 364th Report on Demands for Grants (2025–26) for the Department of Higher Education under the Union Education Ministry, the report added.
At 11 AM the same day, it will hold discussions with the secretaries of the Department of Higher Education and the Health Ministry, the Director General of the National Testing Agency (NTA), representatives of the United Doctors Front, and former Indian Air Force orthopaedic surgeon Gulshan Garg. The agenda includes evaluating pen-and-paper testing versus CBT and discussing issues related to NEET and the NTA.
The panel had previously met on May 21 to review the ongoing probe into an alleged NEET-UG 2026 paper leak and the implementation of recommendations from the Radhakrishnan Committee. During that meeting, the NTA reportedly informed the committee that it was considering limiting the number of attempts for NEET-UG and introducing an upper age limit as well as gradually moving toward computer-based testing from next year.
On June 2, the committee will also meet School Education Secretary Sanjay Kumar and Rahul Singh, Chairperson of CBSE, to review issues linked to OSM in Class 12 examinations and the implementation of the three-language policy in Classes 9 and 10.
