The National Testing Agency (NTA) applies a normalisation method to determine percentile scores in JEE Main, ensuring equity across multiple shifts that may vary in difficulty. The percentile score indicates a candidate’s performance relative to others, rather than their actual marks. The top raw score in each session is given the 100th percentile. Percentile scores are computed individually for each subject – Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. A candidate’s overall percentile is based on their relative position among all candidates in that specific session. If a candidate takes both sessions, the higher of the two percentile scores is considered for the final merit list. NTA does not average or mix raw scores; only percentile scores are taken into account for ranking.
