For Prabhat Kumar Yadav, financial hardship and limited resources did not stand in the way of his dream of becoming a doctor. The student from Devkipur village in Machhlishahr tehsil of Jaunpur district, Uttar Pradesh, has secured admission to the MBBS programme at King George’s Medical University (KGMU), Lucknow, after cracking NEET UG 2026.

Prabhat scored 627 marks and secured an All India Rank (AIR) of 3,864 in NEET UG 2026. KGMU is among the country’s prominent medical institutions and was ranked eighth in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) medical category.

Prabhat comes from a financially constrained family. His father, Mahendra Kumar Yadav, has been living away from his family and driving an auto-rickshaw in Mumbai for nearly 20 years to support the family and fund his children’s education.

While Prabhat, his mother Banshraji, grandfather Indra Bahadur Yadav and siblings live in their native village, his father has spent most of the past two decades in Mumbai.

Mahendra lives in a small chawl in the city and sends his earnings to the family for their daily needs and education. His efforts enabled Prabhat to continue his studies and prepare for one of India’s most competitive medical entrance examinations.

Prabhat initially prepared for NEET in his village for nearly two years before moving to Kota for classroom coaching. ALLEN Career Institute provided him with a 50% fee concession, although arranging the remaining amount was still difficult for the family. During this period, his maternal uncle, Dayaram Yadav, helped support his education.

Prabhat’s NEET journey was not successful on his first attempt. He scored 504 marks in his first NEET UG attempt, which was not enough for him to secure a government medical college seat.

He decided to take a drop year and continue preparing. His efforts paid off in NEET UG 2026, when he improved his score to 627 marks and secured AIR 3,864, earning admission to KGMU.

Before beginning his NEET preparation, Prabhat completed his schooling in his village. He scored 89.44% in Class 10 and 83.44% in Class 12.

The news of Prabhat’s admission brought celebrations to his family and village. A video circulating on social media shows his grandfather, Indra Bahadur Yadav, dancing in celebration after learning about his grandson’s achievement.

His grandfather said Prabhat’s success was a reflection of the hard work and sacrifices made by his father.

Prabhat has also expressed his gratitude towards his family and teachers. He said his family’s sacrifices and the guidance he received during his preparation played an important role in his success.

With admission to KGMU secured, Prabhat now hopes to become a doctor and use his education to serve his village and society.
