Tazeen Siddique, a PhD scholar in the Department of Psychology at Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI), has secured All India Rank 1 in the UGC NET Psychology examination, scoring an exceptional 100th percentile.
Around 22,864 candidates appeared for the Psychology examination, with Siddique emerging as the national topper. She has qualified for both Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and Assistant Professor.
The achievement has been welcomed by the university as a significant academic accomplishment and a reflection of Siddique’s hard work, dedication and academic performance. It also highlights the role of mentorship and guidance in helping students achieve success in competitive examinations.
Siddique is pursuing her PhD under the supervision of Professor Sheema Aleem. She praised Siddique’s efforts and determination. She said the result was the outcome of the scholar’s hard work and dedication.
“It is purely Tazeen’s hard work and determination that have yielded this wonderful result for her. As she has been a student of the Department, we have watched her growth with immense pride. I am sure that she will continue to scale greater heights in her professional career and bring laurels to the University as well,” Prof Aleem said.
The UGC NET is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) to determine eligibility for Junior Research Fellowship, Assistant Professor appointments and PhD admissions, depending on the category and result.
NTA released the results of the UGC NET June 2026 exam on August 28. Of the 6.07 lakh candidates who appeared for the exam across 84 subjects, over 4,000 qualified for JRF, while over 97,000 became eligible for PhD admission. The NTA had earlier clarified that the English, Commerce, and Sociology subjects would be re-examined. An expert committee’s examination revealed factual, typographical, translation, and language errors in the question papers for these subjects. This led to the decision to re-examine these three papers.
