Kerala Schools Shut: Ten districts have declared full closures for educational institutions, while Alappuzha has opted for a partial holiday.
Schools and colleges across 11 Kerala districts will remain shut on Monday, August 3, as heavy rain continues to lash the state. District collectors ordered the closures as a precaution, with the India Meteorological Department warning of more rain ahead.
According to a mathrubhumi.com report, ten districts have declared full closures for educational institutions, while Alappuzha has opted for a partial holiday, limited to relief camps and two flood-hit taluks.
A yellow alert is in force for ten districts on Monday, and authorities have urged residents to avoid non-essential travel.
Palakkad: All institutions, including professional colleges, madrasas, tuition and coaching centres, are shut, the district collector said, citing prevailing weather conditions.
Pathanamthitta: Anganwadis to professional colleges and tuition centres are closed amid heavy rain and flooding. University and public exams will go ahead as scheduled.
Kannur: All institutions barring residential schools are closed, including CBSE, ICSE and Kendriya Vidyalaya schools and madrasas. Scheduled exams and interviews remain unaffected.
Kozhikode: Schools, colleges, anganwadis, madrasas and tuition centres are shut, though online classes may continue, the administration said.
Kasaragod: All institutions, including CBSE, ICSE and Kendriya Vidyalaya schools and madrasas, are closed. University and public exams will proceed as planned.
Wayanad: Institutions except residential schools and colleges are shut. Those serving as relief camps stay closed until further orders.
Malappuram: Professional colleges, anganwadis, madrasas and tuition centres are closed due to continuing heavy rain; university and PSC exams are unaffected.
Thrissur: Institutions including nursery, CBSE, ICSE, Kendriya Vidyalaya schools and madrasas are shut over rain, waterlogging and ongoing relief camps. Exams proceed as scheduled; officials have urged people to avoid rivers, streams and flood-prone areas.
Kottayam: A precautionary holiday is in effect district-wide. Authorities have asked students to stay indoors, avoid waterlogged and landslide-prone areas, and spend the day safely at home.
Idukki: Institutions except fully residential ones are closed as heavy rain and strong winds persist.
Alappuzha: No district-wide holiday has been declared. Collector Shaji V. Nair ordered closure only for institutions functioning as relief camps, including professional colleges, in Chengannur and Kuttanad taluks, besides anganwadis and tuition centres. Exams will be held as scheduled.
A yellow alert is active for Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod, with the weather office warning of winds up to 40–50 kmph, mathrubhumi.com reported. Residents have been advised to track official updates and stay alert as wet weather continues.
