The National Testing Agency (NTA) has started a major restructuring exercise aimed at strengthening its examination systems, improving security measures and rebuilding trust in the country’s competitive examination framework.
Under its “Build New NTA” initiative, the agency has invited applications for four senior leadership positions focusing on assessment, operations, cyber security and investigation.
The overhaul comes months after widespread protests over the alleged NEET paper leak, which triggered demands for accountability and led to the resignation of then Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. The Centre has since announced several measures to improve examination security, including an anti-paper leak law and the creation of fast-track courts for related cases.

The agency said the initiative aims to rebuild an institution responsible for conducting examinations taken by millions of students every year.
“Every year, more than 1 crore young Indians take a National Testing Agency examination,” the NTA said, adding that the future of candidates depends on the “integrity, fairness and quality” of its examination process as the results shape their education, careers and future opportunities.
Rebuilding Examination Framework
Highlighting the need for reforms, the agency said, “It is a responsibility we take very seriously. And it is a responsibility we are rebuilding NTA to be worthy of.”
The NTA said the restructuring process is based on recommendations made by the High-Level Committee of Experts (HLCE) headed by K Radhakrishnan.
“Across academic rigour, technology, security, operations and governance, we are rebuilding the Agency to serve crores of candidates with the credibility they deserve,” the agency added.
Four Senior Roles Open
As part of the restructuring plan, the NTA is looking to appoint candidates for four senior roles:
General Manager, Assessment R&D and Psychometrics
General Manager, Test Centre Network & Operations
General Manager, Information Security (Chief Information Security Officer)
General Manager, Vigilance, Investigation & Forensics
The agency said the head of vigilance and forensics will be responsible for handling investigations into examination malpractice, coordinating with agencies such as the CBI, IB, ED and state police, and working under the provisions of the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024.

The NTA conducts several major entrance examinations, including NEET, JEE and CUET.
Explaining the larger objective behind the reforms, the agency said, “The candidates who write NTA examinations are the future of India. They are the engineers who will build our infrastructure, the doctors who will care for our people, the teachers who will educate the next generation, and the researchers who will drive our discovery.”
The testing agency has also invited applications for Young Professionals through the UPSC’s Pratibha Setu portal, with 12 openings in Academic Research, two in Legal Research and two in Finance & Accounts Research.
Applications for the senior leadership roles can be submitted via email at dir-admin@nta.gov.in within 30 days from July 25, 2026.
Govt’s Push For Exam Reforms
The recruitment notification comes after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a high-powered committee headed by Nandan Nilekani to suggest measures for leak-proof and technology-driven examinations.
Later, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on X, “The Modi govt follows the principle of constant reform to safeguard the future of our new generation.”
Shah added, “We will impose exemplary punishment on the culprits of the paper leak and ensure that no one ever dares to commit this crime.”
