Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed officials to ensure that the Uttar Pradesh Teacher Eligibility Test (UPTET)-2026 is conducted with complete fairness, transparency and integrity, emphasising that every candidate must be provided with a safe, secure and stress-free examination environment.

Reviewing preparations for the examination, scheduled to be held on July 2, 3 and 4, the Chief Minister said UPTET is closely linked to the aspirations of lakhs of young people and that maintaining its credibility is the government’s foremost responsibility. He instructed officials to ensure that no candidate faces inconvenience due to transportation, accommodation, security or lack of basic facilities.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath stated, “The Uttar Pradesh Teacher Eligibility Test (UPTET)-2026 is an extremely important examination linked to the aspirations of lakhs of youth in the state. Its fairness, transparency and credibility should not be compromised under any circumstances. Conducting the examination is not merely an administrative responsibility but a matter of the government’s accountability towards the future of the youth. Providing every candidate with a safe, well-organised and stress-free environment is the State Government’s highest priority.”

Leave Granted For Serving Teachers

In a major relief for serving teachers, the Uttar Pradesh government has decided to grant special leave to Basic Education Department teachers appearing for the  exam. The leave will be applicable on the respective examination dates – July 2, 3 and 4 – to ensure that no eligible teacher is unable to appear for the examination due to official responsibilities.

Over 20 Lakh Candidates Applied For UPTET

Around 20 lakh candidates are expected to appear for the examination at 955 centres spread across 60 districts of the state. Given the large number of candidates travelling from across Uttar Pradesh and other states, the Chief Minister directed authorities to make comprehensive arrangements at railway stations, bus stands and other transport hubs. He also instructed the State Road Transport Corporation, Railways and local transport operators to coordinate additional transport services wherever required to facilitate smooth movement of candidates.

The Chief Minister stressed the need for effective traffic management before and after each exam shift and instructed officials to prevent any unnecessary increase in the prices of food and beverages during the examination period. He also directed that all examination centres must be equipped with clean drinking water, hygienic toilets, shaded waiting areas, uninterrupted electricity, fire safety measures and emergency medical facilities.

In view of prevailing weather conditions, health and disaster management teams have also been asked to remain fully prepared, while district-level control rooms will function round the clock to respond promptly to any emergency.

Through video conferencing, the Chief Minister instructed all District Magistrates to conduct a full rehearsal of examination arrangements a day before the examination to ensure seamless and error-free execution.

The Chief Minister stated, “The sanctity of the examination is paramount. Only officers and employees with an impeccable reputation should be assigned examination duties. The entire process of storage, transportation and safe dispatch of confidential examination material to the Commission after the examination should be carried out in accordance with the highest security standards.”

Separate TET for In-service Teachers

In a major decision aimed at safeguarding the interests of serving teachers, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced that a separate Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) will be conducted for in-service teachers. The move is intended to provide them with additional opportunities to fulfil mandatory eligibility requirements without facing disadvantages due to limited examination opportunities.

Officials informed the meeting that a total of 19,94,661 candidates have registered for UPTET-2026, including over 2.27 lakh candidates from outside Uttar Pradesh and 1.85 lakh in-service teachers. Districts such as Varanasi, Prayagraj, Lucknow, Gorakhpur, Kanpur Nagar, Meerut, Mau, Moradabad, Agra and Jaunpur will witness the highest candidate turnout. Special arrangements for transportation, accommodation, medical support and security are being implemented in these districts to ensure the smooth and successful conduct of one of the state’s largest competitive examinations.
