Maharashtra TET 2026 Exam Paper Leak: Even as the controversy over the NEET-UG paper leak continues to linger, the Maharashtra Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) has been postponed just a day before it was scheduled to be held after authorities uncovered evidence of a suspected question paper leak.
The examination, conducted by the Maharashtra State Council of Examination (MSCE), was deferred after several questions from the actual paper were allegedly found in an unauthorised question paper recovered during a police raid in Bhiwandi.
Why Was Maharashtra TET Postponed?
According to a press release issued by the Maharashtra State Council of Examination, confidential information received early on 27 June indicated that certain individuals in Bhiwandi were in possession of examination-related material.
Acting on the tip-off, Bhiwandi Police conducted a raid at the location.
“Early this morning (June 27), acting on confidential information, it was learned that certain individuals in Bhiwandi were in possession of information related to the question paper. Subsequently, the Bhiwandi Police raided the location in question. During the investigation, several questions from the actual examination were found in the unauthorised question paper held by them,” the MSCE said.
Following the recovery, the council decided to postpone the examination in the interest of maintaining its integrity.
Police have registered a case against the individuals allegedly involved, and an investigation is underway.
Deputy CM Shinde Says Invoke MCOCA Against TET Paper Leak Masterminds
Meanwhile, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said that he would hold a detailed discussion with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on invoking the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) against the masterminds and accused involved in the case.
He said the matter would be investigated thoroughly, impartially and with the strictest approach. No accused, irrespective of their position or involvement in any organised racket, would be spared, and the harshest action permissible under the law would be taken against those found guilty.
Opposition Attacks Maharashtra Government
The exam postponement triggered sharp criticism from Opposition parties, which accused the Mahayuti government of failing to prevent examination paper leaks.
Maharashtra Congress president Harshwardhan Sapkal alleged that paper leaks had become the “identity” of the state government.
“Reports suggest that the question paper for tomorrow’s Teacher Eligibility Test was leaked in Thane, the stronghold of Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. Who is giving political protection to the racket that is ruining the hard work, dreams and future of lakhs of students?” Sapkal asked.
He demanded a fair and impartial investigation and strict action against those responsible.
NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar) MLA Rohit Pawar linked the incident to the NEET-UG paper leak controversy.
“When the NEET paper leaked again in 2026, it sparked widespread public outrage. The Central government ordered CBI inquiries just for show. Those inquiries lasted only 15-20 days, and now nothing is happening. We are seeing the same pattern with the recent TET paper,” he alleged.
Pawar further claimed that if such incidents continued, the government would have to accept responsibility and take action against those found guilty, irrespective of their position.
Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Ambadas Danve said Maharashtra had failed to learn lessons from previous examination paper leak cases.
“Maharashtra was also a centre for the NEET paper leak. But the government didn’t learn anything from it. TET is a smaller exam, but the Maharashtra government failed here as well. This paper leak is a humiliation for the state government,” Danve said.
NCP (SP) spokesperson Amol Matele said the alleged leak raised serious concerns about the security of recruitment examinations.
“If the teacher recruitment examination papers are being leaked, then no examination is safe anymore. Earlier, the question papers of CBSE, NEET-UG and several other competitive exams were leaked. This government has become known for leaks and betrayal as well,” he alleged.
Calling the postponement a “very serious matter”, Matele urged the government to ensure accountability and restore public confidence in the examination system.
The Maharashtra government has not yet issued a detailed response to the Opposition’s allegations.
