Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) Chairman and Managing Director Mukesh Ambani on Friday announced plans to establish a new state private university in Maharashtra aimed at meeting global academic standards. Speaking at the company’s 49th Annual General Meeting, Ambani said that following approval from the state government, the institution will expand from its interim campus in Ulwe, which already offers modern academic, residential, and sports facilities.

The upcoming permanent campus at Dronagiri, spread across 410 acres, is envisioned as a world-class hub for education and research. The campus will include dedicated zones such as an Academic District, Research Park, Sports District, Medicity, residential areas, an Arts District, and an Innovation and Incubation Park to foster entrepreneurship and advanced research.

“Let me begin with education. As India marches towards joining the ranks of developed nations, we need more Indian universities that can be ranked amongst the best in the world. Our upcoming university will fulfil this ambition. I am proud to share that we have received approval from the Government of Maharashtra to establish a State Private University. Our interim campus at Ulwe is already a vibrant centre for learning, with modern academic, residential, and sports facilities on par with global standards. But what lies ahead is even more transformative,” he announced.

7 Specialised Schools

The university will house seven specialised schools, including Engineering and Computing, Management and Entrepreneurship, Law and Policy, Humanities and Social Sciences, Medical Science and Public Health, Architecture and Urban Planning, and Education. It will offer programmes across undergraduate, postgraduate, doctoral, and postdoctoral levels.

Designed to attract global talent, the university aims to bring together leading academicians, researchers, and students from around the world. Aligning with the vision of Viksit Bharat, the institution seeks to position Mumbai as a Knowledge City and contribute to making India a global knowledge hub, he added.

With a focus on innovation, adaptability, and lifelong learning, the university aspires to nurture future leaders who are rooted in Indian values while equipped to thrive in a rapidly changing global landscape.
