Just a month after 23-year-old Pradeep Meghwal was found dead in his residential flat while preparing for the medical entrance re-test, another similar tragedy has emerged from Rajasthan’s coaching hub. A 22-year-old NEET aspirant, identified as Umesh Mali, took his own life by hanging himself at his flat on Piprali Road, under the jurisdiction of the Udyog Nagar police station.
According to Udyog Nagar Station House Officer (SHO) Rajesh Budania, the deceased was the son of Laxmanram Mali and a native of Kari village in the Nawalgarh area of Jhunjhunu district. Umesh was living in a rented flat in Sikar with his mother, elder sister, and younger brother to prepare for the NEET-UG 2026 exam. This was intended to be his third attempt at cracking the nationwide medical entrance test, which was scheduled to take place just six days later, on June 21.
Found by Siblings Hours After Village Trip
According to the police, Umesh’s father works as a tiles contractor in Mumbai. On Monday morning, Umesh had travelled to drop his mother off at their native village before returning to the Sikar flat in the afternoon.
Later that day, his elder sister and younger brother returned to the flat and discovered Umesh hanging from the ceiling fan in his room. The devastated family immediately alerted the local authorities.
Suicide Note Recovered as Investigation Begins
Upon receiving the information, the Udyog Nagar police arrived at the scene, took possession of the body, and transported it to Shri Kalyan Government Hospital. The body was handed over to the family following a post-mortem examination.
While investigators recovered a suicide note from the site, the primary reason behind the suicide remains unclear. Police stated that the exact contents of the note and the precise circumstances surrounding the incident are currently under active investigation.
Rising Mental Pressure Ahead of the National Exam
This recent heartbreak marks the 11th reported student suicide in the country and the second in Sikar since the National Testing Agency (NTA) announced the cancellation and subsequent re-test of the NEET-UG 2026 exam within a month’s time.
Prior to this incident, on May 15, another NEET aspirant from Jhunjhunu district, Pradeep Mahich, died by hanging in the exact same Piprali Road area. The consecutive tragedies have once again raised serious concerns regarding the mounting mental pressure, anxiety, and psychological stress faced by students preparing for highly competitive national examinations under volatile circumstances.
