Photocopies of evaluated Class 12 CBSE answer sheets obtained by students for re-evaluation show that Physics has become the subject with the highest number of complaints. Many students have raised concerns about missing marks in the On-Screen Marking (OSM) process, very strict checking, lack of marks for correct steps, and even cases where the wrong answer sheet was uploaded.

Several students alleged that fully answered questions and correctly solved numerical problems were given very few marks or even none. Some said their scores were far below what they had expected, prompting them to apply for re-evaluation. Others claimed that derivations, formulas, and step-by-step calculations were not properly awarded marks despite showing all the required work. Many students also highlighted inconsistencies in handwriting, presentation, and writing style, while some complained about missing scanned pages and supplementary sheets in Physics.

Earlier, a CBSE Class 12 student, Vedant, alleged that the Physics answer sheet uploaded under his roll number was not his. “The Physics answer sheet sent by CBSE does is not my answer sheet at all. I KNOW this is not my handwriting and it did not have the questions I attempted. Not just me, my family, teachers, and everyone who knows my writing immediately noticed the difference,” he wrote. CBSE officials contacted him the same evening, after he raised the issue on microblogging site X, to hand-deliver his actual answer sheet.

In another case, a student pointed out an error where a small letter seemed to have been marked wrong, even though many users felt the answer appeared correct.

CBSE too had acknowledged around 20 cases of answer-sheet mismatches during the evaluation process. Officials said nearly 98 lakh answer books were processed and maintained that mistakes can occur in both manual and digital systems.

As per CBSE data, scoring high grades has become more difficult in some science subjects. The A1 grade in Mathematics now starts at 85 marks, down from 86 in 2025 and 88 in 2024. In Physics, the A1 cut-off has fallen to 79 marks from 82 last year and 84 in 2024. Chemistry’s A1 cut-off is now 87, compared to 89 in 2025 and 92 in 2024. Biology is the only subject where the A1 threshold remains unchanged at 91 marks.

Second highest complaints from Math

Mathematics has received the second-highest number of complaints. Students reviewing their answer sheets have alleged that intermediate steps were not given enough credit and that lengthy solutions received fewer marks than expected, the news agency added.

In Chemistry, complaints mainly relate to questions where students believe answers matching the marking scheme were awarded reduced marks or no marks at all.

Biology has seen fewer complaints, although some students have said that detailed explanations, diagrams, and labelling were not fully rewarded.

While students expected application-based question papers, many feel the checking process did not adequately reward correct methods, reasoning, and partially correct answers.

The re-evaluation application portal closed on Sunday, June 7 with the IIT panel giving nod to the reassessment of CBSE papers.
