What is the 8th Pay Commission?
A Pay Commission is set up by the Central Government to revise the salaries, pensions and allowances of government employees. The 7th Pay Commission came into effect in 2016, and discussions around the 8th Pay Commission have already started gaining momentum. The biggest expectation is an increase in the fitment factor, the multiplier used to calculate revised basic pay. (Image: Pexels)

Expected Fitment Factor Under 8th Pay Commission
Under the 7th Pay Commission, the fitment factor was 2.57. Reports suggest the 8th Pay Commission may raise it to somewhere between 2.86 and 3.68. If that happens, SSC employees across different pay levels could receive a noticeable salary hike. For example, the current minimum basic pay is Rs 18,000. The expected revised basic pay will be around Rs 51,000 (if higher fitment is approved). The final numbers will depend on government approval and pay level. (File Photo)

While the current in-hand salary ranges between Rs 45,000 to Rs 80,000, the expected revised salary may be around Rs 70,000 to Rs 1 lakh+ per month. Metro city postings may receive even higher salaries due to HRA and transport allowance. (Image: Pexels)

The current in-hand salary is aroud Rs 25,000 to Rs 40,000, while the expected revised salary may be approximately Rs 40,000 to Rs 60,000. Their current in-hand salary is around Rs 18,000 to Rs 25,000, while the expected revised salary may be around Rs 30,000 to Rs 40,000. Will SSC Jobs Become More Competitive?
A major salary hike could make SSC exams even more competitive in the coming years. Government jobs already attract lakhs of aspirants due to job security, work-life balance and retirement benefits. If salaries rise sharply after the 8th Pay Commission, competition for SSC CGL, CHSL, MTS and GD Constable exams may increase further. As of now, the government has not officially released the final recommendations or implementation date for the 8th Pay Commission. The salary figures circulating online are estimates based on expected fitment factors and expert analysis. Candidates should wait for an official notification for confirmed pay structures and revised salary slabs.
