The Kerala General Education Minister’s office has approached the state police chief seeking immediate action against social media channels allegedly spreading false information about Onam examination question papers, officials said on Sunday.
According to a statement issued by the minister’s office, the minister’s private secretary filed the complaint with the state police chief, urging authorities to investigate the matter and take appropriate action.
Teachers and educational content creators routinely use platforms such as YouTube and Instagram to conduct classes and support students. However, the minister’s office said some channels were allegedly exploiting these platforms by circulating misleading claims about the school examinations.
The complaint cited posts and videos promising students access to the Onam examination question paper, claiming that only certain questions would appear in the exams, or presenting purported model papers while encouraging students to study only those questions.
The minister’s office said such content could create unrealistic expectations among students and give them a false impression about how the examinations are conducted. It also warned that students might neglect comprehensive preparation and instead depend on questions allegedly revealed shortly before the exams.

Officials also expressed concern that some social media channels could be using such claims as a means of attracting students to online groups and platforms and subsequently obtaining personal details or other forms of student data.
With the Onam examinations already in progress, the minister’s office said the issue required urgent attention, as misleading information could interfere with students’ preparation and performance.
The complaint has called for the police to verify the claims made by these channels and initiate legal proceedings if they are found to be fraudulent. It has also asked authorities to examine whether students’ personal information is being improperly collected through such promotional tactics.
The minister’s office urged students, parents and teachers to remain cautious and not fall for unverified promises regarding examination question papers. It warned that strict action would be taken against those found making false claims.
At the same time, the office clarified that the complaint was not intended to discourage teachers from conducting legitimate academic classes or providing educational content through social media platforms.
