Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday asked officials to prepare a comprehensive youth policy in line with the needs and aspirations of the state’s young people, with a focus on education, skill development, employment, health and leadership.
Chairing a review meeting, Adityanath said the policy should be prepared after assessing the needs and expectations of people in the 16-35 age group, according to an official statement. He also directed officials to set up an independent commission of experts to monitor the overall development of youth, reported PTI.
Adityanath said students, sportspersons, research scholars, start-up entrepreneurs, young professionals and youth from different sections of society should be involved in preparing the policy. He also asked officials to invite public suggestions so that the policy reflects the real needs of young people and prepares them for future challenges.
He said the policy should also promote entrepreneurship, innovation, digital empowerment, culture and heritage. It should give priority to skill development in emerging fields such as artificial intelligence, robotics, cybersecurity, drones and semiconductors to help young people prepare for future jobs.
The chief minister also directed officials to promote youth incubation centres, support start-ups and job creation, and develop a single digital platform that provides career guidance, scholarship information and job-matching services.
He asked departments to work together for the effective implementation of youth welfare schemes and directed officials to expand modern libraries, study centres and reading spaces to support students preparing for competitive examinations.
The chief minister asked officials to speed up the establishment of the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Industrial and Employment Zone, examine the expansion of the Chief Minister Abhyudaya Coaching Scheme to all universities and colleges, and accelerate the development of sports infrastructure. He said sports are an effective way to keep young people away from drug abuse.
Adityanath also called for a playground in every gram panchayat, a mini sports complex in every development block, a centre of excellence for sports in every district and a high-performance sports centre in every division.
