Mumbai Weather: After a brief lull in some regions, rainfall is expected to intensify across Maharashtra over the next two days. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast increased rainfall between July 29 and July 31 due to the influence of a low-pressure area moving inland from the Bay of Bengal. Moderate to heavy rainfall is expected across Vidarbha, North Marathwada, Khandesh, Konkan and ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra. Wind speeds are also likely to increase across Vidarbha, North Marathwada and Khandesh during this period. In comparison, Marathwada and the southern parts of Madhya Maharashtra are expected to receive relatively less rainfall.

District-Wise Rainfall Timeline: According to the IMD, the low-pressure system will move across different parts of Maharashtra over the next three days, shifting the focus of heavy rainfall. On July 29, the rain is expected to be concentrated mainly over East Vidarbha. By July 30, the system is likely to intensify over West Vidarbha, Khandesh, North Marathwada, the Ghat regions of Madhya Maharashtra and Konkan. On July 31, rainfall activity is expected to persist mainly over parts of Khandesh and the Ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra, although the overall impact of the system is likely to begin easing.

Mumbai, Thane, Palghar And Raigad To See Heavier Rain: Rainfall intensity is expected to increase across Mumbai and the Mumbai Metropolitan Region between July 30 and July 31. The IMD has indicated that Raigad, Thane and Palghar are likely to receive particularly heavy rainfall on July 30.

Flooding, Waterlogging And Landslide Risk: Authorities have warned that heavy rainfall could lead to waterlogging in low-lying areas, flooding of rivers and canals, traffic disruptions, damage to infrastructure and localised disruption to normal life. There is also a possibility of landslides in the Ghat regions of Madhya Maharashtra, prompting residents and travellers to remain cautious.

Mahad Village In Raigad Hit By Cloudburst-Like Rain: Heavy rain has already begun affecting parts of Konkan. In Deshmukh Kamble village in Mahad taluka of Raigad district, cloudburst-like rainfall was reported, sending rainwater rushing through village roads. Videos shared on social media showed several roads submerged, with residents reporting that parts of the village resembled a flowing river after intense afternoon showers.

Nagpur Declares Holiday As Heavy Rain Disrupts Normal Life: Heavy rain has inundated several parts of Nagpur, disrupting daily life and causing waterlogging across many areas. Following an Orange Alert for Wednesday, Nagpur District Collector Kumar Ashirwad has declared a holiday for all schools, colleges and anganwadis in the city, as well as in Hingna, Kamthi and nearby rural areas. The decision came after floodwater entered some educational institutions and stranded students during Tuesday’s downpour.

Chandrapur Schools Shut Under Red Alert: The IMD has issued a Red Alert for Chandrapur district for Wednesday and Thursday. In response, District Collector Vasumana Pant has announced a holiday for all schools, colleges and private coaching classes. Residents have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel and stay away from rivers, streams and other low-lying areas due to the risk of flooding.
