QS Best Student Cities 2027 Rankings Out: Mumbai improved from 98th place in 2026 to 91st in 2027, achieving an overall score of 61.8.

Mumbai has emerged as India’s highest-ranked student city in the QS Best Student Cities 2027 rankings, released on Tuesday. The city climbed seven places to 91st globally. Meanwhile, Delhi has been recognised as the world’s most affordable student city.
According to the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) rankings, Mumbai improved from 98th place in 2026 to 91st in 2027, achieving an overall score of 61.8. It outperformed Delhi, Bengaluru and Chennai to become the highest-ranked Indian city this year. The city’s performance was driven by strong employment prospects and affordability, earning scores of 78.3 in Employer Activity and 84.4 in Affordability. It also scored 44.9 in Desirability, 43.5 in Student View, 39 in University Rankings and 15 in Student Mix.
Delhi also recorded an improvement, rising from 104th to 99th globally with an overall score of 60.3. The national capital topped the Affordability indicator with a score of 93.9—the highest among all 150 cities ranked by QS. According to the report, average annual tuition fees for international students in Delhi are around US$2,700 (approximately Rs 2,57,302) , making it the most affordable destination for overseas students. The capital also earned a strong score of 80.4 in Employer Activity.
Among the other Indian cities, Chennai climbed five places to 123rd, while Bengaluru fell six places to joint 114th. QS attributed Bengaluru’s decline in part to its comparatively higher international tuition fees, which average around US$5,400 (approximately Rs 5,20,385) per year.
Seoul Named World’s Best Student City
Globally, Seoul retained its position as the world’s best student city, followed by Tokyo and London in second and third place, respectively. Melbourne moved up one spot to fourth, while Munich and Sydney shared fifth place.
Paris remained seventh, Berlin slipped to eighth, Vienna rose to ninth and Zurich rounded out the top 10. Among Asian cities, Singapore retained 11th place, Beijing climbed to 12th, and Kuala Lumpur dropped three places to 15th.
The QS Best Student Cities 2027 rankings evaluate 150 cities worldwide based on university quality, affordability, employer reputation, student diversity and overall student experience.
Mumbai ranks 91st and Delhi 99th in the QS Best Student Cities 2027 rankings, with Delhi named the world’s most affordable student city. Globally, Seoul is the top-ranked student city.
