Applications for the inaugural Fall 2026 intake at Illinois Tech are now open.
The Illinois Institute of Technology (Illinois Tech) has received a Letter of Approval (LoA) from the University Grants Commission (UGC) to begin academic operations at its Mumbai campus. The approval marks a major step toward the university’s first student intake in India, with programmes set to commence in September 2026.
With the launch of its Mumbai campus, Illinois Tech becomes the first US university to offer US degrees in India, bringing its technology-driven education model, interdisciplinary approach, and industry-focused learning experience to Indian students, the institute stated in a press release.
Courses Offered at Illinois Tech Mumbai
The Mumbai campus will offer undergraduate programmes in key technology and business disciplines, including:
Computer Science
Artificial Intelligence
Business
Engineering
The university will also introduce postgraduate programmes designed to address the requirements of an innovation-driven economy.
The curriculum will focus on project-based learning, interdisciplinary collaboration, and industry engagement, allowing students to gain hands-on experience alongside academic knowledge. The campus will feature technology-enabled learning spaces inspired by Illinois Tech’s Bauhaus heritage, designed to encourage creativity, problem-solving, and innovation.
Applications Open for Fall 2026 Intake
Applications for the inaugural Fall 2026 intake are now open. Students can access information about programmes, admissions, scholarships, faculty, and campus facilities through the university’s Mumbai campus website.

“By bringing an American, technology-focused education to India, we are enabling students to earn a globally recognised U.S. degree while benefiting from interdisciplinary learning, experiential education, and close collaboration with industry,” Sundharam said.
Illinois Tech’s Mumbai campus is unique as it is the first US university to offer US degrees in India. The campus has received approval from the UGC to begin academic operations and will commence programmes in September 2026.
