Amid outrage on social media over claims that traffic congestion caused by a public event in Bengaluru delayed NEET aspirants from reaching their examination centre on time, Bengaluru City Police and Bengaluru Traffic Police have released a fact-check based on CCTV footage and route analysis, concluding that the event did not contribute to the delay.

According to the police, CCTV footage established that “Candidate 3″ left the residence in RT Nagar at 12.57 pm, while the prescribed cut-off time for entry into the examination centre was 1.30 pm. The candidate reached the exam centre area at 1.33 pm, three minutes after the deadline.

The fact-check, issued on June 21, said the clarification was based on “CCTV footages, interaction with the candidate and parents, and route analysis of Candidate 3″.

Under their findings, the police said the candidate had departed “only 33 minutes before the prescribed cut-off time”. They also noted that route analysis indicated that the candidate “travelled through a longer route, despite the availability of a shorter route which could have enabled quicker travel”.

Addressing allegations that a public event had caused heavy traffic, the police stated that traffic conditions on the day were “generally normal, with no significant congestion attributable to the Public Event”.

The document also noted that traffic police personnel deployed along the route were “seen facilitating the candidate’s movement wherever required”.

In their conclusion, the Bengaluru Police said, “Based on CCTV footage, interaction with the candidate and parent, and route analysis, the available evidence does not indicate that traffic congestion caused by the Public Event led to the delay.”

They added that the late arrival was “primarily attributable to departure from residence only 33 minutes before the cut-off time and selection of a longer travel route”.

“The delay was not caused by traffic congestion arising from the Public Event,” the police said, adding that they remain committed to “fair, transparent and evidence-based assessments”.

The clarification comes after several posts on social media linked the delay faced by some NEET candidates to traffic snarls allegedly caused by a Congress event in Bengaluru. Police, however, said their analysis found no evidence to support those claims.
