The West Bengal Budget 2026 carried a string of major announcements for unemployed youth, with Finance Minister Swapan Dasgupta proposing a new monthly allowance scheme, free coaching centres in every district and a one-time financial grant for students preparing for competitive examinations.
What Is The Bharosa Karmosuchi?
The budget has proposed the launch of a new scheme called Bharosa Karmosuchi from October 2026, aimed at providing monthly financial assistance to eligible educated unemployed youth between the ages of 21 and 45. Under the scheme, unemployed graduates will receive Rs 3,000 per month, while other eligible unemployed youth will receive Rs 2,000 per month.
Who Is Eligible?
The scheme will apply to candidates from families whose annual income is below Rs 1 lakh and who are not already availing benefits under any other social security scheme.
Free Coaching And One-Time Exam Grant
The budget also announced the setting up of free coaching centres for competitive examination preparation in every district of the state.
Additionally, students of government and government-aided colleges who are preparing for competitive examinations will be eligible for a one-time financial assistance of Rs 30,000. The finance minister said he is proposing an allocation of Rs 30 crore for this purpose.
Political Context
The BJP, ahead of coming to power, had promised extensive job creation for the unemployed and financial support for those appearing in competitive examinations. Among its most prominent pre-poll commitments was the Yuva Shakti Bharosa Card, under which Rs 3,000 per month was to be provided to unemployed youth.
Work on the Yuva Shakti scheme had already begun after the party came to power, and the formal budget announcement on Monday is expected to be welcomed by unemployed youth across the state.
