‘Life Eventually Works Out’: He Failed IIT-JEE, Five Years Later Gifted His Father A BMW
For millions of Indian students, the IIT-JEE is more than just an entrance exam, it is often seen as a gateway to success. But what happens when that dream slips away? For Shaurya Shikhar, the disappointment of not clearing the IIT-JEE once felt crushing. The setback hit particularly hard because his father was an IIT alumnus. At a time when many of his peers were moving ahead with their engineering aspirations, Shaurya found himself battling self-doubt, uncertainty, and the feeling that he had somehow fallen short. According to entrepreneur and content creator Ankur Warikoo, who recently shared Shaurya’s story on LinkedIn, things looked bleak for the young student five years ago. Pursuing a BBA degree instead of engineering only deepened his insecurities, while his health struggles added to the challenge. He weighed more than 110 kilograms and struggled to see a bright future ahead. (Image: Shaurya Shikhar/LinkedIn)

Warikoo described Shaurya’s state of mind at the time in a candid post: “He attempted the IIT-JEE and got rejected. This made him feel like an absolute failure, especially since his dad was from IIT! To top this, he doesn’t redeem himself by doing engineering. Instead, he loses his mind and does a BBA degree. He weighed 110+ kg. Felt like he let down his parents. Hated his college. Was convinced his life won’t work out.” (Image: Shaurya Shikhar/LinkedIn)

Yet, what seemed like the end of the road turned out to be the beginning of a remarkable transformation. Shaurya joined Warikoo’s team while still in college and gradually rebuilt his confidence, career, and health. Five years later, his life looks dramatically different. Today, at 26, he reportedly earns a seven-figure monthly income and recently gifted his father a BMW worth Rs 55 lakh as a retirement present. (Image: Shaurya Shikhar/LinkedIn)

Warikoo shared another update that highlighted just how far Shaurya had come: “Cut to this year, Shaurya bought a 55L BMW for his dad as a retirement gift. He earns 7 figures every month. The down payment of the car would be less than 5% of his net worth. The EMI would be less than 7% of his monthly salary. Plus, he is his fittest self now!” (Image: Shaurya Shikhar/LinkedIn)

But the story, Warikoo emphasized, is not really about money or luxury cars. Instead, it is about perseverance when life appears to be falling apart. “And that’s the irony of life. Life eventually works out. But it doesn’t help to know that when you have failed. Here is what helped me: KEEP MOVING!” (Image: Shaurya Shikhar/LinkedIn)
